Shiro was a postdoc in Fargo from 1985-1987. During that time, he
programmed the transition moment and one-electron spin-orbit coupling
calculations, based on the GUGA CI code. He has been responsible for
the continued development of the spin-orbit code, particularly its
Zeff model, and published several papers with the Gordon
group on this subject:
- S.Koseki, M.W.Schmidt, M.S.Gordon
J.Phys.Chem. 96, 10768-10772(1992)
- S.Koseki, M.S.Gordon, M.W.Schmidt, N.Matsunaga
J.Phys.Chem. 99, 12764-12772(1995)

and a review of spin-orbit coupling:
- D.G.Fedorov, S.Koseki, M.W.Schmidt, M.S.Gordon
Int.Rev.Phys.Chem. 22, 551-592(2003)
Shiro and his postdoc Hiroaki Umeda are responsible for the parallelization
of the MCQDPT multi-reference perturbation theory code in GAMESS in 2000.
He has visited Ames several times.
